The myth of Eros and Psyche is a love story. It tells us how this feeling can arise completely by chance.
The interesting myth of Eros and Psyche

The myth of Eros and Psyche is about one of a king’s three daughters. According to history, she was not only the most beautiful woman in Anatolia (modern day Turkey), but even the most beautiful woman in the world.

According to the story, everyone fell for her after seeing how beautiful she was. It was for this reason that Venus, the goddess of love, began to feel jealous.

She could not handle the fact that a mortal could be more beautiful than her.

The reason for this was that men thought more about the beauty of the Psyche than worshiping Venus at the temple.

The goddess could not stand it any longer and gave orders to Eros, her son, to find her and shoot her with one of his arrows so that she would fall in love with the worst creature there was.

Eros was obedient and did exactly as his mother had said. However, he accidentally poked himself with the arrow he was going to use on Psyche and fell head over heels in love with her.

The god of love ironically had no experience of love itself and did not know what to do with it. Therefore, he had no choice but to ask for Apollo’s help – the god of light and truth.

The myth of Eros and Psyche tells us that the god Apollo did not know what to do either. According to him, it was best to remove all Psyche’s suitors from the equation.

With the help of his powers, the men began to admire Psyche, but did not fall in love with her. Everyone praised her beauty but no one wanted to marry her.

Psyche’s two sisters were already married while she was not. Her father then asked the gods for help.

Apollo knew that Eros’ love must remain a secret so that Venus would not get angry. He therefore advised the king to take her to a distant mountain and abandon her there.

Her father became very sad, but he obeyed Apollo’s instructions because he was a wise god.

The myth of Eros and Psyche says that the girl cried terribly when she reached the mountain and then fell asleep. When she woke up, she was in a beautiful garden next to a beautiful castle.

A voice then invited her and asked her to put on the beautiful dresses and eat all the good food.

The myth of Eros and Psyche

The same voice that had guided her told her that her husband would visit her during the night. But the meetings would take place in the dark and she was absolutely not allowed to see his face.

If she did, they would be separated forever. She therefore had to trust him, because if there was no trust, there was no opportunity for love.

The story goes that the girl felt flattered by so much attention. She spent every night with him and just fell more in love.

However, there was something that still made her sad and that was that she had not seen her sisters for a long time and really missed them.

Her husband tried to persuade her not to invite them, but she was determined to do so. He eventually agreed, but warned her not to talk to him about them.

The sisters went to the palace and were jealous of everything their sister had and the love that lit up her eyes.

So they started trying to make henna insecure and told her that her husband could be a terrible monster.

The myth of Eros and Psyche tells that the girl followed her sisters’ advice. When she lit an oil lamp, she saw a beautiful Eros lying next to her. When she looked at him, he happened to injure himself on the lamp.

He was both hurt and upset, and left to look for his mother. He swore he would never return to Psyche.

Psyche regretted that she had not trusted him and sought out Venus and asked her to fix her relationship.

Venus subjected her to various kinds of harsh and inhumane tests, but a few ants, a rose bush, and an eagle helped her pass them. Venus finally asked her to go to the underworld and give her some of the beauty of Persephone.

Persephone was touched by the girl’s story and gave her some of her beauty in a coffin. After many hardships, Psyche managed to return.

Before she arrived, she decided to take part in that beauty herself. She opened the coffin and fell asleep when she felt the sleeping smell from inside.

When this happened, Eros had already forgiven and followed her everywhere without her knowing it. He therefore woke her from the magical dream.

How the myth of Eros and Psyche ends

Eros asked the gods to approve of his marriage to Psyche. They agreed and gave Psyche ambrosia so she would be immortal. Venus also gave in and agreed to the marriage. In the end, they lived happily ever after.
